Dog waste bags: cheap or ecological – spoiled for choice

Cheap or ecological dog waste bags

Plastic - yes but...

Dog waste bags are made of plastic. More precisely, they are made of thermoplastic material called polyethylene (PE film). Chemically speaking, this consists of the basic organic substances carbon and hydrogen. It burns residue-free to carbon dioxide and water. No toxic vapors or slag are produced in the process. A good thing, but requires that the bags are incinerated in a waste recycling plant. Thrown under a bush in nature, they are like any plastic; non-degradable. And ultimately ends up back in our own food chain as microplastics.

Organic bags - more than just a but.

Organic bags made from renewable raw materials: They are made from sugar beet, maize or potatoes, which are processed into bags instead of being eaten. Biological
degradable under suitable conditions, say the manufacturers. - If only there wasn't the big BUT. We used them ourselves, tested them, composted them and analyzed them. The result: the bags neither turn into humus nor are they completely biodegradable. Composting produces small plastic-like shreds that have to be fished out of the composting plants by hand.

The term "organic" is illogical: neither the cultivation is organic, nor the production and certainly not the decomposition into microplastics. On the contrary, the misnomer encourages dog owners to "dispose" of the plastic in forests, meadows and bushes, where it poses a danger to the environment and animals. Therefore: Whether "organic" or normal plastic bags - they all belong in the bin.

Bioplastics are not biodegradable. It belongs in the bin, not in the compost. "

The classic made of HD polyethylene with a particularly high density and a thickness of 13 μ and 15 μ (red). Results in very good tear resistance and a high level of opacity and odor resistance. In red, the bag has the advantage of creating an additional incentive for correct disposal with its eye-catching color.

A sensible alternative: made from at least 85 percent renewable raw material sugar cane from certified cultivation. These plastic bags
are a sensible alternative to the so-called organic bags. In contrast to conventional petroleum-based polyethylene, the raw material for these bags is completely CO2-neutral. The print, load capacity, feel and material thickness are even better than those of conventional bags. Ultimately, the I'm-green bag is also 100 percent recyclable plastic and should therefore be incinerated with household waste in the waste recycling plant.

Recycled dog waste bags

Recycled dog waste bags

They are good for both the environment and your wallet: our recycled bags are made from 30-60 percent recycled polyethylene, the majority of which is residual waste from our own production. They are becoming increasingly popular thanks to their consistent eco-balance in production. The bags are made of LD and HD polyethylene.

*Attention: Dog excrement and bags must not be composted! They should be incinerated with the residual waste. According to the manufacturers, the so-called "organic" bags can contain up to 70 percent oil-based raw materials. It is therefore essential that they are incinerated. The term "organic" is misleading and has no place in connection with bags and dog excrement. For these reasons, we no longer carry "degradable organic" bags in our range.
