Alpha storage with simple integration into intelligent, manufacturer-independent e-car charging technology

Alpha ESS is intensifying its efforts in the field of smart energy: the successful collaboration with the open source solution openWB now makes it possible to easily integrate the Alpha ESS SMILE5 and SMILE-T10 power storage units into intelligent, manufacturer-independent e-car charging technology.

Since 2019, Alpha ESS has been intensifying its efforts to network its own storage systems with other smart energy providers in order to optimize consumption control. While the company relies on its own intelligent energy management system (EMS) for storage control, it is increasingly working with open source providers for integration into the smart energy network. One of these collaborations relates to the growing electromobility market.

The number of new electric car registrations in Germany has been rising sharply for years and had already reached a new high of around 77,200 new registrations by August 2020. One hurdle for the purchase of a battery electric vehicle (BEV) is still the installation of a dedicated charging station, which charges the vehicle in a demand-optimized manner in combination with existing PV and electricity storage. Charging electric cars must not overload the house connection and should be done with solar power for most customers if possible. So buying an electric car usually also means setting up a smart charging station. The open source solution openWB offers a simple solution for this - since June 2020 also with full integration of the Alpha ESS electricity storage systems SMILE5 and SMILE-T10.

The openWB project offers customers a turnkey solution with extensive functions. The openWB software controls the charging station in such a way that the fused total output in the house is not exceeded and, above all, the home's own solar power is used to charge the battery. Coordinated charging of the electric car and the Alpha ESS electricity storage system maximizes self-consumption and minimizes electricity consumption from the public grid.

Sascha Lenhardt, Head of Sales at Alpha ESS Europe, is particularly pleased about the shared values: "We are very pleased about the cooperation with the manufacturer-independent openWB. This provides our customers with a safe, flexible and cost-effective solution for integrating e-car charging technology - precisely the values that are also important to us for our energy storage systems."
