PV firefighter safety switches for large PV systems must reliably integrate numerous strings, widely distributed generator fields and long cable routes into a coordinated shutdown concept. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For this large-scale PV installation, seven QFire Control Boxes and a total of 84 QFire BIG Switch Boxes were installed. In total, the system enables two-pole disconnection of 954 PV strings from the inverter side. The Switch Boxes are distributed across the roof close to the individual generator fields.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For reliable long-term operation, the QFire Switch Boxes were additionally fitted with purpose-built protective canopies. extensive QFire system comprising seven Control Boxes and a total of 84 QFire BIG Switch Boxes was implemented. The cable section between the PV modules and the respective Switch Box remains energised by the PV modules.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Particularly on large roof areas, positioning the Switch Boxes close to the PV generator reduces the length of DC cabling that remains energised after shutdown. Of these, 27 Switch Boxes were configured for ten PV strings each and 57 Switch Boxes for twelve PV strings each. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This allows a total of 954 PV strings to be integrated into the shutdown concept. The assignment of strings to inverters and MPP trackers, the distribution of the generator fields, cable routes and the required shutdown groups are equally important. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The QFire Switch Boxes were therefore configured to suit the existing system design. It forms part of an overall shutdown, cable-routing and fire safety concept.<br>The number of PV strings is only the starting point. A technically robust system design must also take into account the spatial distribution of the generator fields, the inverter architecture, MPP trackers, cable routes and the required triggering points.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The earlier the shutdown architecture is incorporated into the PV system design, the better the Switch Boxes, Control Boxes and cable routes can be coordinated. If shutdown points are defined only at a later stage, this can result in unnecessarily long DC cable routes, difficult-to-access mounting locations or additional modifications to the existing system architecture. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"stringstruktur-mpp-tracker-und-wechselrichter-gemeinsam-betrachten\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">String Layout, MPP Trackers and Inverters Must Be Considered Together<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each PV string must remain clearly assigned to its corresponding inverter and MPP tracker within the shutdown system. Spare connections within a Switch Box are therefore not sufficient reason to combine strings with different electrical assignments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the number of strings, the design requires information such as open-circuit voltage, maximum short-circuit current, number of modules per string and assignment to the inverter inputs. A layout of the generator fields, the planned building entry points and the routing of the DC cables are equally important. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on this information, the required number of Switch Boxes, the appropriate number of strings per box and the optimum installation positions can be determined. This ensures that the electrical system architecture remains clearly traceable throughout the firefighter switch system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"abschaltgruppen-und-auslosepunkte-eindeutig-definieren\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clearly Define Shutdown Groups and Triggering Points<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On extensive rooftop PV installations, not all Switch Boxes necessarily need to form one single shutdown group. Depending on the building layout, inverter architecture or fire safety concept, it may be appropriate to create several separate system areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For each shutdown group, the assigned PV strings, Switch Boxes and inverters should be documented. The central triggering point, any external emergency-stop or key switches, and the required system behaviour in the event of a supply failure must also be defined. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The functional description should additionally specify how the system is returned to operation after a shutdown. This is particularly important where external triggering devices, a fire alarm system or higher-level control systems are integrated into the shutdown concept. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"betriebsstatus-und-stormeldung-unterscheiden\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Distinguishing Operating Status from Fault Indication<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A status contact does not automatically indicate every possible fault within the system. Depending on the system configuration, it may, for example, only indicate whether the QFire system is switched on or off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the signal is to be evaluated by a building management system, PV monitoring system or fire alarm system, the required information must be defined during the planning stage. Operating status, shutdown indication and technical fault indication are separate functions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Possible feedback signals may relate to the operating state, a fault in the control connection, the status of a shutdown group or the condition of an integrated surge protection device. In addition to rain, snow and ice, direct solar radiation, significant temperature fluctuations, contamination and possible condensation can affect enclosures, connectors and installed components. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The QFire installation requirements therefore specify a protected mounting location.
